As we begin our journey on the spiritual path, we are taught that we create our own reality. At first this can seem confusing for it is difficult to understand why we would create the dysfunctional patterns we often encounter on our journey through life.
Possibly this concept becomes clearer with the understanding that the life we experience reflects the beliefs we hold. Both about the world around us and the beliefs we have about ourselves. In an attempt to reprogram our limiting beliefs you may have tried using affirmations. This may have worked magically in some areas of your life and not others. Or maybe you've watched them work beautifully for someone else, yet got nowhere with your own. Why?
Let us recognize that we do create our own reality, and also that this process is not conscious. It is the subconscious mind which holds our beliefs and mirrors them back to us in our outer world.
Most of these beliefs were programmed into the subconscious mind before we were old enough to have discernment. The subconscious mind acts very much like a computer. Once a program is entered into the computer, it remains there and is accessed whenever the right button is pushed. Once the right button is pushed, it is the only program available, so our past programs paint and distort our present. It is for this reason that we are forced to relive the past. Once the program is engaged, our reactions are no longer in our conscious control. This is what Eckart Tolle means when he says "Whenever you have a problem forgiving anyone, it is because you believe they had a choice."
Our conscious mind basically has four functions:
The analytical part of us, the part we use to solve problems which arise in our day to day reality.
Our temporary memory. While you may easily recall your friends phone numbers that you call regularly, you cannot remember those of old friends you haven't kept in touch with.
Willpower is also part of the conscious mind which explains why it seldom has any lasting effect in overcoming our negative habit patterns.
And, finally there is our rational mind. The rational mind needs a reason for everything you do. Without the rational part of the mind, we would end up psychotic in a mental institution. The problem with the rational aspect of our mind is the reason it gives us for why we do the things we do - which is seldom the real reason. It seems as long as we have a reason though, we feel okay.
The real reason why we do most of the things we do are held in the subconscious mind and the subconscious mind does not communicate with the conscious mind. All of our habits, both good and bad, are subconscious. This is why our willpower can often be so ineffective in overcoming our negative habits.
Our emotional responses are also held in the subconscious mind. How we react to the people and situations in our life are seldom conscious. The subconscious mind also holds permanent memory. Everything you have done and everything you have ever known is held in the memory bank of the subconscious. When someone is regressed in hypnosis they can easily remember their own birth experience. Even the memory of past lives can be accessed through hypnosis.
One of the reasons that affirmations take so long to be effective, or
in some cases not work at all, is that they must take root in the
subconscious. But the subconscious is resistant to change and puts up
something called the critical factor to block suggestions which are
contrary to its programming. When
Transformation
someone is in deep hypnosis, the critical factor is bypassed and the desired suggestions enter directly into the subconscious, where permanent changes are made. This is why positive suggestions given in a state of hypnosis create the lasting change we are looking for.
If you grew up in a dysfunctional home environment, and it is estimated that 90% of us did, there is a good chance that you have unresolved emotional issues. In metaphysics we say the emotional body is magnetic, meaning what we don't express fully, gets trapped in the magnetic field of the body. It doesn't go away, it just becomes unconscious and continues to influence us and our relationships with others, for the rest of our lives, or until we clear it.
Hypnosis is an excellent way to access and clear those old emotional scars and the dysfunctional patterns they create in our life. Many of the health problems people experience are rooted in these emotional scars, as well as self-judgment and guilt. By removing the belief or emotion at the root of the health issue, the recuperative powers of the body can begin the healing process.
Hypnosis has become well-known for successfully helping people who want to quit smoking and lose weight. It has even been shown to be a very effective tool for pain management and has been used for many years as a means of painless and drug-free child birth. It is also highly effective in treating children with ADD, allowing them to complete their school years successfully and drug-free.
Phobias are also deeply rooted in the subconscious. These programs have been powerfully accepted in the subconscious and replay every time the trigger is pushed. By regressing to the ISE (Initial Sensory Event), and neutralizing it, most often the phobia disappears.
One of the most exciting applications for hypnosis is how it can help a person access much higher levels of consciousness. Once the conscious mind is bypassed, it is easy to guide a person to the fourth and even fifth dimension. It is from these levels that someone can very clearly communicate with their guides and teachers. Other abilities are also easily accessible such as seeing and reading auras, astral travel at will and channeling profound levels of healing energy.
When someone is in these higher levels of awareness they can clearly see their problems and know what they can do to solve them.
Once a person has experienced these higher states they can be programmed by the hypnotherapist to be able to access them quickly and easily whenever they choose, allowing them to spend their meditation time in a state of unlimited awareness and unconditional love.
Hypnosis, in the hands of a skilled hypnotherapist, is an incredible tool to free us of our limitations and radically propel us forward on our spiritual journey.
